Final Fantasy Smash Brothers

Or, Final Fantasy Dissidia for some.

It’s for PSP, and essencially seems like some FF brawl with the Kingdom Heart fighting style.

Yes, that’s Garland vs the Light Warrior.

And yes, Sephiroth is probably gonna be schooled by that same Light Warrior.

Release date TBA.

(Damn you, PSP)

Oh god the comments.

I creamed myself a few months ago when I first heard of this. Then I saw it was for PSP and was greatly irritated. I really hate how SE went to make games for the PS3 / PSP. I might get a PS3 at SOME point in the future but not a PSP.

I had the same initial reaction as Sin. Although optimistic, I couldn’t help but think, “You lie!” Then the dissapointment. I am getting pretty pissed off with all these great games going to handhelds. I don’t play games on the go. I would be blind if I spent all my time that I spend on console games staring at a tiny screen for the hours a RPG requires. My blood is boiling again…thanks SE.

To be fair, the PSP’s screen isn’t exactly tiny (about the one advantage it has gaming-wise over the DS, truth be told), and this game does look the awesome. Definite buy for me, then again, I am a mug.

I don’t mind handheld games personally.

I mind when they’re made on a SHITTY handheld.

Anyone ever picked up the Potemkin source code for the PSP emulator? Because that’s just about the only way in hell I’d ever play any of these games.

At first I thought I’d never be picking up another handheld. But the number of games for next-gen systems I’m interested in (all three together) can be counted on three fingers, whereas the DS and PSP require both hands and feet. I already have a DS, and while I was leery of the small screen, I find it doesn’t bother me at all. And I love the “suspend” feature.

I also thought I wasn’t going to pick up a PSP, but with so many awesome games being released for it (FF Tactics:LW, Disgaea, FF7 Crisis Core, Dissidia, MGS: Portable Ops, Jeanne d’Arc, and eventually Star Ocean 1 and 2… I must have missed some), it’s a shoe-in. And the PSP Slim actually has a video out cable, so you can play the games on the big screen!

While the thought of beating the living shit out of Sephy with Fighter of the Light Warriors is nice my anticipation for the game isn’t all that high. Now if Squeenix had borrowed against the majority of its franchises like Nintendo’s Smash Bros did instead of just Final Fantasy then I’d be foamin’ at the mouth. I mean Zidane vs. Kuja just pales compared to a fight consisting of T.G. Cid vs. Freya vs. The Master vs. Magus. If they had announced a game like that I would’ve been demanding for Snake to crossover in that one instead of SSBB. I mean take that previous line-up swap out Magus for Snake and you’d have an epic struggle between Three Gods and a Bad-Ass Mother-Fucker. That’ll be a…uh…fight to remem…unh…gurgle gurgle gurgle

Suddenly, the room is filled with the noise of frothing and melting brains

Thanks for the reminder.

:hyperven:I want to play some PSP games, but the PSP isn’t worth getting. I’d probably break in a day anyway. Are there any PSP games out of other systems?

Nope. It won’t change the game from its native resolution. Only useful for videos. Sorry =/

I … hmmm.

My interest in Final Fantasy is much too casual to get a PS3 or a PSP, really.

This game looks cool, but I second the notion that the Square universe should have been included instead of limiting it to just Final Fantasy. How about Frog vs. Kuja? Or Freedan vs. Magus? That would have been super cool.

As far as the PSP is concerned, I’ve seen shots of the limited edition Final Fantasy PSP and it’s sleek, sexy and has a bigger screen. Hand helds have never really been that high on my radar just because I never seem to be in an opportunity where I’m just out AND bored AND have my GBA with me or something. So I just gave up on them.

I work on a PSP alot, it’s okay for screen resolution. But…that really is the only redeeming quality I could ever find to it.

And what good is resolution when the games made for it are just not fun.

I’m not sure why everybody’s so down on the PSP. I personally prefer the DS myself (if nothing else, due to its innovation and sheer number of awesome games), but the PSP has plenty of good games as well, although admittedly, the PSP has plenty of bad games too. I just mostly stick to the RPGs (like Cid mentioned), 2D action games (Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, Mega Man Powered Up, the forthcoming Dracula X remake, etc.) and the quirky games (Loco Roco, WTF, etc.)
