Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

Anybody play it yet? I was wondering what yours guys’ thoughts on it were. I’ve played it and I’m glad that you don’t have to use the GBA for single player, but you still sort of need it for a stupid reason (the map). The look and feel is great, but the gameplay is definitely lacking. You power-up in a weak way and it doesn’t really feel like an RPG. What are your thoughts?

My complaints would remain the same with other people. In fact, I’d have another complaint. With more than one person, one person has to carry a “chalice” which limits where you can go. However, when carrying the chalice, the character can’t do anything. In single-player, a moogle carries it which solves that problem. It isn’t too bad single player, just disappointing overall. My disappointments are general. Such as fighting is pointless since you don’t have levels and the only way to get stronger is to beat the boss of an area after collecting items throughout the area.

Infonick! I have it, and I’ve kind of… enjoyed it…

I’ll say, though, I feel there is a lack of… challenge… and it is, in my eyes, a REAL attempt for basically a multiplayer fun game. So, I really just say it’s FUN, but, it’s become… a kind of… over… and… over and over exercise because you make run throughs at the same areas to basically get +1 of stats or whatever the +x may be. BUT, I’m only int he first year and I don’t know how much the game will actually change to make it any more fun, challenging, etc…

If you plan on buying it, maybe, maybe you can ask a friend who might have it to try it out to see if you like it or rent it… and just play through it a bit. Or, at least I woul suggest that.

I was actually quite… disappointed in the game. The only way that you can lvl up is to get those artifact thingies at the end of each boss fight… and out of all the artifacts that you pick up in a dungeon, you can only keep one of them.

The boss fights are very easy… I was in the 2nd year of the game after playing it for 2 and a 1/2 hours. The graphics are good, and I really enjoy the sceneries, but I hate the fact that you can’t really do much in towns… You can’t enter people’s houses and there’s not much to explore in a town.

So far I’ve only played multiplayer once with my sis… and it wasn’t as fun as I expect it to be… it’s probably because my sis sux in playing the game, so instead of helping me out in fighting tough monsters, she’s more of a burden for me in the game.

I haven’t played it yet, but it looks like fun to me. If only we could get one more GBA to GameCube link cable, I could play with my brothers… darn it…

In Nintendo Power magazine, they mention that over the years, you’ll start to grow up and some sort of storyline will develop… or something like that. I’m not sure, I should probably go check… but yeah, the real action doesn’t really start until after a few years. That’s what I’ve heard anyway.

It takes place over 5 years and the years are pretty short. So that isn’t too big. I’m on the second year right now.

I think it’s 8 or 9 years, BUT! Since you have played it, what are your thoughts ont he game since you are already farther than I am :stuck_out_tongue: I guess you have enjoyed it more…

There’s at least 8 (don’t know if you can go on after 8). I’m not a huge fan (renting it, thankfully (RE is so much better!)), but for the FF fans, it’s probably worth it. The different races make it a bit more diverse, as well as the different jobs and stuff. And I like the letters.

There’s part of my thoughts on the game. Anyway, I’m already starting to lose interest in the game. The year setup really sucks. So far the bigegst plot sort of thing I’ve seen is going out on a caravan to replenish th power of the crystal, however, once you’ve done it one year it sort of feels like you’ve beaten the game and are doing a New Game+ sort of deal. The minimal charcater building also hurts it. It is hard and time consuming to upgrade the equipment because you get such little money. I’m gonna beat it though. The random events are pretty cool though, I just wish that you coudl interact with them a bit, like when you get robbed. It is one of the more “Final Fantasy feeling” games though which is nice. While it looks a lot like FF9, it improves the look and feels good (I didn’t like FF9’s look or setup). It is funny, when I play it, it makes me want to crack open FF9 and give another whirl.

I think this game is a failure. I think if had more action-rpg elements to it… it would have been better. Or maybe just a storyline, no forward direction to a boss, and leveling of some sort…

Well I think it’s cool. I finally got to play it yesterday and I must say that it’s very fun. I wouldn’t play single player mode though. It’s probably boring. If you do have FF:CC, then you should also have friends to play with, because otherwise you won’t have much fun.

I still think it won’t be that fun multi player.

Oh, but it is! You should try it sometime and see for yourself.

Why does everyone enjoy leveling so much? Leveling is really pretty monotonous. Especially since people usually level by just finding enemies they can beat over and over again to get a lot of experience.

People can oppose and say why not level? It’s fun, somewhat…
And your mom is subjective, Vorpy.

Oh, and say without leveling… there is just a lot of repetition and lack of story which has… a lack of appeal…

It is what makes an RPG an RPG. I like it since I like becoming a godly character and laying down the smack on final bosses. I also like leveling since it gives me a reason to fight the bad guys and use my techniques and stuff. Otherwise I might as well avoid them and what is the fun in that? Unless it is a stealth game of course.

However, your last statement is worse in FFCC. You can beat the first boss over and over and build up your stats. The first area is pretty short too, which makes it even easier.

AND THE CONCEPT!! REgah! THE CONCEPT… you STROLL to the [EXPLETIVE] boss… you CAN stroll… you don’t fucking saunter to the boss… there were no traps… I feel the need to ramble… but FFX-2 is being entertaining right now… but the dungeon! It’s nto a dungeon! I can’t get over how it’s not a udngeon! It’s imperfect! It’s… H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. But, then it is made for multiplayer games… ::dekar!::

I should also add that level building is a huge part of online RPGs. Heck, that is part of the fun, building your character into a power house and showing him off to other people. Level building also gives some direction and an objective.

The battle system is semi-reminiscent of KH, too… I like the fusing though, along with the limited slots. More choosing.
