FFTA: Boss trouble

I cannot beat the third Totema (Adrammalech) and his three dragon henchmen, despite my using six characters of nearly their same level (12 vs 13). They kill my characters in one blow! What can I do? FYI I have 16 characters (counting Marche and Montblanc) all are level 12 or less, and I have at least one of every class, with most 100-point abilities and a few 200-point ones.

Also, one monster in one of the sidequests (The Cursed Bride) turned out to be 26 level!!! Is there a way to kill her now, or do I save this quest for later?

for the first one, a fire ban card would help stop the fire attacks of the totema and the fire drake, and a dragoon with wyrm killer if you have.

for the second question, I suppose it’s possible, but hard. I’d wait.

No, fire ban only would stop the fire dragons. A beast master with Dragon would work well, as does equipping Flame Shields or Robes so that Andy’s most annoying attack is gone. Honestly, Black Magic rules the day here, as long as you use the counter element to the dragons.

I’d help, but I was at level 22 when I fought him :
I just ganged up on him, didn’t bother with his little henchmen things.

THAT was a fun one. Not really challenging, but fun as all hell. Ganging up on her is funneh. All you gotta do is find a way to get her to get surrounded, then just heal your units while pounding on her (or save it for later >_>)

the fire ban card also stops the big guy’s moves. Did you read my post, SD?

Woah… you really want to speed through the story missions dont you? my best suggestion is to train and od lots of other missions and clan battles they will help alot.

No it doesnt pink, he has a medal, like all boss monsters so the laws dont affect him.

What baffles me is why my characters aren’t tough enough to deal with these monsters. I HAVE been doing EVERY mission as soon as they pop up, and making sure I spread the EXP around so they all level up at more or less the same speed. Why am I meeting such though monsters at this point in the game??

You have to fight random battles (battles with other clans) too. And it’s not the missions, it’s how much you get per mission. Hitting another team member or using a non-aggressive skill always yields 10 points, as opposed to maybe 6 or 8 when hitting the opponent, or none at all if you just rest. Never, ever rest if you can avoid it, even if it means casting Protect when you don’t need it.

You shouldn’t have to fight that many random battles, whenever I have trouble with one specific fight I just try to make as many people in my squad as possible have ten JP so they can summon a totema from the start. Hopefully your clan has a mixture of different races.

I’ve been avoiding random battles the entire game and I haven’t had any problems. 8p But I think that’s because I made a few wise decisions early on - in particular, my nu mou and moogle learned Blizzara very early, and my humans and Bangaa learned Air Render very early. Those two skills were almost enough by themselves to get me through the entire first half of the game. 8p And I made my Viera a Red Mage early too so I had Red Magic.

Oh, and Animist rules. Sleep/Frogging the enemies is very nice. :sunglasses: Doesn’t work on bosses though. -_-

As for the level 26 bride, she’s all by herself and you’ve got four people, so it’s not the end of the world. I think I was about level 15 when I fought her, but you should at least try once or twice, as long as you have someone who can heal.

Um…what? No that’s not true Cless, All experience is based on levels. If your target is same level, then 10 exp, if higher, then 2 exp per level that they are higher. If lower, same thing in reverse. Doesnt matter what you use, item, skill, spell, or attack, all yield the same experience.

I dunno about frog(but i figure its the same) but sleep should work against most bosses as long as they dont have a ribbon equipped or something.

I would help, but I haven’t yet fought the first and I am already level 13-15.

All I can reccomend is that you go back, level up a little, and then return to him.

Can you use the same Totema more than once per battle? I haven’t tried that yet. If so, I suppose I could try raining Totema attacks on Adram. (I have several Nou Mus and Moogles.)

Yes you can.

Yeah, you can use Totema as many times per battle as you have characters capable of it. You do know the Nu Mou one is only capable of MP damage though right?

The Nou Mu Totema only does MP damage? Not that I notice.

In any case, I FINALLY got to kill the !@#$%^&, but it took me NINE tries, using Totemas in the last three! And even then it was a fight to the last man!!

Thanks for the tips, guys!

The Viera Totema only doe MP damage as well

Drop some of the weaker characters and you can recruit stronger ones. Also, just use a main group of 6 characters for battle that way you’ll always have strong characters to use in engagements.

And exp is based on the enemies level, ie: when your fighting the Bride, you get like 40-50 exp points for hit. And bring a blue mage on that trip as it is the best way to learn the Blue Magic spell twister.

IMO I use combos more than Totemas. If you can get one character next to a enemy, a character with a missile attack can combo with its attack and the character next to the enemy.
