FF6 RE-retranslation project!

Kaiser’s the reason I touch myself while thinking about little boys at night and cry.

Your not that old, you know. Or maybe you’re lying about your age

I sent a pm about shin megami tensei to you. I didn’t mean to insult Shin Megami Tensei. I was just saying there’s SOMETHING about that game…

Anyways, I don’t have anything against Kefka. I actually think he rocks.

You can change the color of the text via the options screen.

I got the impression that you guys were attempting to do a translation that was more accurate to the script without it sounding sucky like that other translation. I didn’t know this was some joke thing.

I disagree. The reasons why Sephiroth turns to evil are quite different than Kefka’s. There’s all this talk about his history and background and being betrayed by the big evil corporation and whatnot; or even a lust for power and domination. FF8, Seifer is very insecure and turns to Edea mostly out of cowardice or his competition with Squall. Most other FF villains are just sort of breathing doomsday machines. A sort of animalistic satan figure that is going to destroy the world for some reason or other if the good guys don’t put an end to it. Kefka is different. He’s a human being, just as mad as psychiatric patient, but he becomes emperor of the largest organization in the world! The way he systematically destroys and takes over the power structure shows a level of calculation and cunning that belies how ridiculously insane he is. But he doesn’t even want anything. He’s just destroying everything (and actually destroys the world) for apparently no reason than the glory of the slaughter. For those reasons and others he stands out over nearly every other gaming villain.

Kefka is great. I just didn’t like how there was philosophical stuff at the end.

Nah, Merlin…we’re giving people the gist of the plot, while making it as RE-diculous as possible. Still though, it’s cool that you were interested, heh :stuck_out_tongue:

And Kaiser…Kefka is psychotic. Play it. They fucking say so in the game. He’s got screws loose. He’s one tire short of a car, or whatever you wanna call it. He cuckoo, okay? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still interested in auditioning for any available part, if there are some open.

EDIT: And speaking of essays, did Zepp ever judge the contest ones?

I didn’t think kefka was nuts. He just did stuff like poison rivers and obliterate stuff with the light of destruction. He’s an evil destruction maniac

Psychotic people aren’t able to function at all

Well, when you put it like that, he sounds perfectly reasonable.

Oh, and I know of a rom hacker, but I don’t know if he would be interested. I’ll ask him whe he gets online.

The definition of psychosis is ā€œany severe mental disorder in which contact with reality is lost or highly distortedā€ it doesn’t necessitate that they aren’t able to function at all.

Well, Kefka doesn’t seem to be disorted

Well, we never really got to see a look into kefka’s mind, though :mwahaha:

If it wasn’t said, it was kind of implied.

Is the kefka’s laugh the same sound heard in the horrow show in Chrono Trigger? You know, that one in the Milleneal fair.

I think I also heard that sound in the prison in CT near where Lucca frees you

Does anyone besides me think the climax of final Fantasy 6 was cheesy?

Why do people call the part in an rpg when you talk to the final boss a climax, anyways? I thought the climax in a story is the part when everything is revealed, right in the middle, before the resolution

Sort of like how Hitler was insane but still had his act together enough to become leader of Germany.

I edited my last message

the climax is the scene that resolves the central plot dilemma(s) and leads to any falling action or conclusion. Where the ultimate fate of the characters is revealed.

So, in The Good The Bad and The Ugly the climax is when they reach the graveyard with the gold and have the final standoff to decide who gets it

Or, in Moby Dick, when the whalers have their final confrontation with the white beast.

Or in FF7, where the adventurers have the last battle with Sephiroth to decide the fate of Midgar.

Or in Hamlet, where there is the final duel scenes and everyone gets poisoned and dies.

Okay, thanks

Kefka kills and destroys for the sake of the death and destruction. He’s an artist and that’s his medium.

And yeah, Merlin, the genesis of this whole retranslation idea came from a convo SG and I were having one night, and somehow ā€œWhat’s Up Tiger Lillyā€ came up, and then somehow the idea of doing that to a videogame got into our heads. I think we were looking at some other fan retranslation rom of FF6. ā€œDude, we should totally do that.ā€ ā€œYeah, that’d be hella funny!ā€ And there ya go.

oh ok. I still think it’d be really cool to do a literal translation of the game that doesn’t suck, but I guess the joke one is cool too. I like it in an ironic sense I guess.

Heh, good to have your support, Merl

Again, to hammer into everyone’s heads:

PROJECT CURRENTLY POSTPONED UNTIL ROMHACKER IS FOUND. If you guys know ANYONE that can help, tell them about this! Tell me about them! Help the team out, y’all!
