FF6 RE-retranslation project!

is it too late to comment on your characterization of Celes? I think you guys are seriously misappraising her character…

Merlin, if you have any ideas, go ahead and pitch them, cos we’re stuck for a while.

And RC, the project is currently postponed until we get a romhacker  We need someone to expand the rom after all; the more I insert text, I find that text from the end of the rom begins to suddenly dissapear, and also the character sprites are becoming a bit scrambly. I’m guessing it’s lack of space. If you’re not busy, or know ANYONE that would like to help, lemme know :open_mouth:

Sorry, I don’t know of anyone, and I’m busy myself with other stuff, but it sounds like you exceed the alloted space for text and steped over into graphic data.

I didn’t think it was boring. And by the way, the dialog wasn’t the same. The translation is true to final fantasy with stuff like “firaga” and “demi”. And there are features like the porn book that weren’t in Final Fantasy 3.

Are you serious you guys are making a patch for Final Fantasy 6 because I didn’t see it on RPGclassics tranlsation OR Whirlpool. I wihs i would of downloaded it instead of the “boring” one

It’s a work-in-progress, Kaiser. Did you honestly think that the official translations weren’t “true to final fantasy” BEFORE you found out that they weren’t literal translations?

here’s a start. We can discuss from here :stuck_out_tongue:

http://rpgclassics.com/subsites/ff6anniversary/ff6essay_merlin.shtml

RC, if you EVER think of ANYONE that MIGHT be interested, REMEMBER me. :O!

And Merlin…I don’t follow what you’re saying. Your essay is like…good. And serious. This retrantslation will be silly and lighthearted. What are you getting at with showing me your essay? :stuck_out_tongue:

In that essay and in the rpg shrine why is the text green? It was white in the SNES cartridge

And in the conclusion of that essay, that quote at the end was tacky, in my opinion. In every rpg and anime there’s that time when the villian says that everything sucks, but the good guys say it’s valuable. Really, the good guys sounded like this little echo I was hearing

“I will exterminate everyone, and everything!”

“People will keep rebuilding the things you take from them!”

“Then I’ll destroy those too. Why do people rebuild things they know are going to be destroyed? Why do people cling to life when they know they can’t live forever? Think how meaningless each of your lives is!”

“It’s not the net result of one’s life that’s important! It’s the day-to-day concerns, the personal victories, and the celebration of life … and love! It’s enough if people are able to experience the joy that each day can bring!”

But then again, maybe it’s Final Fantasy 6 that invented a nihilistic villian that destroys for a reason

By the way, I don’t think kefka’s pyschotic. I also don’t remember him pointing at me

Kaiser’s the reason I touch myself while thinking about little boys at night and cry.

Your not that old, you know. Or maybe you’re lying about your age

I sent a pm about shin megami tensei to you. I didn’t mean to insult Shin Megami Tensei. I was just saying there’s SOMETHING about that game…

Anyways, I don’t have anything against Kefka. I actually think he rocks.

You can change the color of the text via the options screen.

I got the impression that you guys were attempting to do a translation that was more accurate to the script without it sounding sucky like that other translation. I didn’t know this was some joke thing.

I disagree. The reasons why Sephiroth turns to evil are quite different than Kefka’s. There’s all this talk about his history and background and being betrayed by the big evil corporation and whatnot; or even a lust for power and domination. FF8, Seifer is very insecure and turns to Edea mostly out of cowardice or his competition with Squall. Most other FF villains are just sort of breathing doomsday machines. A sort of animalistic satan figure that is going to destroy the world for some reason or other if the good guys don’t put an end to it. Kefka is different. He’s a human being, just as mad as psychiatric patient, but he becomes emperor of the largest organization in the world! The way he systematically destroys and takes over the power structure shows a level of calculation and cunning that belies how ridiculously insane he is. But he doesn’t even want anything. He’s just destroying everything (and actually destroys the world) for apparently no reason than the glory of the slaughter. For those reasons and others he stands out over nearly every other gaming villain.

Kefka is great. I just didn’t like how there was philosophical stuff at the end.

Nah, Merlin…we’re giving people the gist of the plot, while making it as RE-diculous as possible. Still though, it’s cool that you were interested, heh :stuck_out_tongue:

And Kaiser…Kefka is psychotic. Play it. They fucking say so in the game. He’s got screws loose. He’s one tire short of a car, or whatever you wanna call it. He cuckoo, okay? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still interested in auditioning for any available part, if there are some open.

EDIT: And speaking of essays, did Zepp ever judge the contest ones?

I didn’t think kefka was nuts. He just did stuff like poison rivers and obliterate stuff with the light of destruction. He’s an evil destruction maniac

Psychotic people aren’t able to function at all

Well, when you put it like that, he sounds perfectly reasonable.

Oh, and I know of a rom hacker, but I don’t know if he would be interested. I’ll ask him whe he gets online.

The definition of psychosis is “any severe mental disorder in which contact with reality is lost or highly distorted” it doesn’t necessitate that they aren’t able to function at all.

Well, Kefka doesn’t seem to be disorted

Well, we never really got to see a look into kefka’s mind, though :mwahaha:

If it wasn’t said, it was kind of implied.
