Anyone heard anything else about this? I was expecting SOMETHING to be said about it at the Square-Enix thing going on in Japan, but so far Gamespot doesn’t have anything, and I think the party’s over.
Yeah, the party is done by now, and it appears nothing on FF3 happened. As IGN doesn’t have anything on it either. It’s taking an awful long time for them to come up with something if they’re only giving it SNES graphics and a Touch Pad interface. So it makes me think that it’s either been cancelled or they’re doing more than just SNES level graphics.
… I just had a mental image of FF3j with Nintendo 64 level graphics. I can’t imagine why, though.
Especially since the DS isn’t capable of N64 level graphics fully.
At the resolution that the DS has, it’s hard to tell the differences between N64 and DS.
True, Sat, but there are a few noticable differences. Such as textures and the like. Take Mario 64 DS for example. While it looks extremely similar Mario and co are a little boxier when you look at them closely. But Nintendo offset that by adding more details. So while the DS is a few stripes below the N64 with textures and so on, Nintendo is obviously trying to find ways around the software limitations. As are other companies, as can be seen in Nanostray and I think it was Burnout 3.
If there’s nothing announced, that means it’s still under production. If we hear nothing by the next E3 or Tokyo Game Show (whichever comes first, I forget) then we can start worrying.
Well, we still haven’t heard an official cancellation for the FFVII-IX remakes for PS2, either. I can almost unequivocally state, though, that those were cancelled.
Yes, but those were only sort-of-announced that they were kind-of-in-production once, whereas we’ve gotten at least two or three press releases about FF3DS so far, if my memory serves.
The Tokyo Game Show is in September, I think.
