Mine wasn’t. I don’t think I ever got above 7000 or so. And the Masamune’s awesomeness comes from the fact that it attacks 5-8 times in a row.
You know, I just started replaying since I wanted to do a 100% playthrough, and this is painful. Not the gameplay, but just watching the initial segments does nothing but remind me how the entire story goes nowhere. I mean, Vaan is talking! He’s doing stuff! And Basch! Holy hell Basch is relevant!
I’m in the Leviathan right now, and I’ve half a mind to stop playing because I know the moment I rescue Ashe I’ll be asked to collect the Dawn Shard, thus kick-starting Fetch Quest World Tour which will not halt until the indescribably and excruciatingly boring Pharos marathon.
Man, did this game ever go to fucking hell. At least Radiata Stories was cheaper to produce and had tri-Ace at the helm, so it was to be expected. This one is just tragic.
Well, I finally finished Wild Arms 5 (that one I’ll cover in another thread) so I’ll be getting FFXII this weekend. So far I’m getting the impression this game is like FF8, that is: looks good, sounds good, plays OK, story boring. Honestly, I was more entertained by getting the Summons than anything else in 8. I’ll let you know what I feel of 12 as I play it.
Everything about 12 is very good except the story. Sadly. The battle system /gameplay is amazing. So I wouldn’t quite equate to 8 where the battle system SUCKED and therefore the game was not only boring to see but also play through.
I should clarify: the plot is a bit subpar. I felt the overall story, which in my mind includes the NPCs’ dialogue, the Clan Primer, and the general painting of the world as a whole, was pretty enthralling.
I’m with Cid on this one. (Although this endorsement is coming from someone who has attempted DQ VII twice.)
In 8’s defense though it did have that card game. Not even 9’s could top it. :\
What NPC dialogue? Hardly anyone says a word at all in the entire time between Raithwall’s tomb and Pharos, and you spend almost every single moment treking through uninhabited areas where you get lucky if you see a lone merchant standing next to a save point. The interesting NPCs are somewhere else doing stuff off screen while you are stuck silently wandering in circles through the continent to the point that you forget what’s going on and why the heck you are there in the first place.

I found the FF8 combat system good enough. Not my favorite but I’ve seen worse. I didn’t care for the Junctioning system, but I didn’t hate it either- maybe because I never bothered with trying to junction high-level magic on everybody. As I said, I’m not a powergamer. In fact, there was one incident, during the battle with Ultima Weapon, that I still recall fondly: my party was almost dead when Angelo (Rinoa’s dog) showed up and casted invincibility on my party, giving me the chance to win the fight. Good doggie!

I agree with that line of thinking. Though coming off from a more character-oriented game as was Wild Arms 5, I can do without much emotion (not to mention lots of dialogue) from the characters for now.
The idea of the story was great, the exection (character interaction, development, pacing, etc) was boring as shit. The script and voice acting were outstanding.
I agree that there was a giant dip in the story where you had one big exploration area after another - and exploration in this game is completely uninteresting since all the treasures are random.
But when you actually go and visit cities (e.g. for Hunts) you do see more of the story open up. By NPCs I didn’t mean story NPCs, but just the general population of the cities around you.
Although I could have done with a different font. All capitals is really annoying. -_-
I think we can all agree that whenever Fran and Balthier did anything together awesomeness resulted.
fixed
Heh.
Not much else, true - but she sounded awesome whatever she said. Definitely the most interesting accent I’ve heard.
Well, today I had an unexpected chance to go to Mayaguez city so I decided to buy the game already- only to find they had run out of copies at my local EB store. Well, they said they had ONE left, but looked up for it and couldn’t find it. :thud: A new store in the same Mall that specializes in trading games had no copies either. Neither did the local Walmart.
My only hope now is that Toys R Us has a copy. I’ll check again in the weekned.
Buy online, man. Best way there is.
Fuck, where is Gilgamesh? The Guide said he was at the end of the Site 9 section, but I didnt see him. I ended up past site 11, god knows where, and got my ass killed by level 60+ motherfuckers. Where is he?
If you’re referring to the second battle then he is at the end of site 11. There is a save crystal right before him though which will make the fight possible with even a level 50ish party.
Otherwise he’s on the largest bridge in site 9.
I would, but I wanted to buy it used to save money. In any case, I don’t have a bank account right now so I can’t buy it that way unless I send a money order. Possible but slow. If I don’t find it at Tous R US I’ll see if I can buy it with my nephew’s help (he has an Ebay account.)
Possible but VERY VERY difficult.
Fight 1 is on one of the Bridges in the middle of the area (which is appropriate considering his history in other FF games…) and fight 2 is at the very very end of the area.
And how do you NOT have a bank account at your age?? I agree with Cid, buying online owns.
