FF12 Questions

Um… FFT took place before FF12. It’s quite obvious if you read the Clan Primer entry for Magic Pot.

It only says that Ajora Glabados was born, started his cult and died before XII took place. That was not only ancient history in FFT, but old enough that basically no reliable records remained outside the Gremonic Scriptures. Moreover, it says that the Glabados faith split away from Kiltias and started gaining power, even though Kiltias still existed, whereas Glabados is the only faith in Ramza’s Ivalice.

Add that in FFT Moogles are said to be extinct and that Airships and basically any technology more complicated than a windmill is a long-lost relic of ancient times, the fact that there’s basically no divine intervention in FFT (where, if it’s as you say, the Occuria would still be watching over everything), not to mention that Raithwal’s huge-ass empire is supposed to stretch back for a LONG time in history… and that it makes a whole lot more sense for entire races to be wiped out in centuries rather than entire races just… popping up in that same amount of time…

It really makes no sense to think they go in that order.

Gak… you got me, I got mixed up. The Clan Primer thing says that Ajora’s cult was 1200 years before FF12, putting FF12 itself 800 years before FFT.

Damn…, I’m gonna have to play tactics again, I don’t remember any of this stuff. >_<

I’ll put my idea on backburner for awhile (I don’t feel like acquiring the title of Quina the second  ). I’ll just say that it could have been alot more streamlined.

Where in the primer does it mention Ajora?

The entry for Magic Pot.

Where exactly does FFTA fit into the mix? I know the Moogles, Bangaa and Vierna? (that’s right, right?) are still alive in that game.

Viera. And Nu Mou.

FFTA was all an illusion in that magic book thing, the world wasn’t real.

when i got the hang of this game i was stuck on the classic style of everyones class blah blah blah. when i started this game i flipped when i could choose my own jobs for characters. for example my ideal party is:
1)vaan- powerhouse/tank
2)bache- powerhouse
3)ashe- mage/ archer

this party won me the game in 13 hours my first time around.
:chupon:

OK, I’m now 45 hours into the game (in my second playthrough.) I just beat the Elder Wyrm Boss, which was the point I had stopped at in my previous play (what a cheap Boss, btw.) It took me 70 hours the first time to get there, so I am blazing through now, plus I’m having more fun, especially coming up with specific Gambit macros for each specialized character.

Still, I have some questions:

-I’m trying to do the Missing Cockatrices sidequest, but it hasn’t started despite the fact that I have both the Dawn Shard and the Feather of the Flock. What am I missing?

-If I use instant-defeat spells like Warp or Stone, do the characters still get experience, LP etc.from the monsters? This is important, as I would have to adjust the macros accordingly.

And btw, I do not like the camera in this game, it keeps shifting POV during battles with large foes or flying ones or if I run into a wall during a fight. I’ve actually missed seeing the killing blows on some bosses as a result. Feh.

1-It doesn’t trigger until after you do Draklor Laboratory.

2-I’d advice you not to even bother with those. If you are dead set on doing in for whatever reason, just go kill something with it and see if the EXP/LP gained pops up after a kill or not.

3-I have no idea how the camera could be troublesome. Did you tinker with anything? And what do you care about seeing the killing blow anyway?

1- So that’s it? The guide didn’t say that, only that it couldn’t be completed until then. Oh well.

2- I just wanted to see if somebody could tell me without my having to test each and every such spell myself.

3- I like seeing who kills the Boss and how. What’s so weird about it?

Why, that’s almost half! >_<

I also had a few difficulties with the camera, but I eventually figured out that I was accidently pushing the button down that centers and zooms in on the targeted enemy (Real annoying with flying enemies). Sounds different than what happened to you, though.

Progress Report: I made it all the way to the Matheus Esper, but couldn’t beat it. Figuring I was underleved (level 26 party vs level 30 Boss) I decided to go grind somewhere. I decided to go to Broken Sands so I could continue the Desert Patient subquest at the same time. Everything was going great- I got three dewdrops, and I even killed three Saurians! but then I ran into one of those rare beasts- a level 31 Brown Chocobo- that wasn’t there when I came in. The stupid thing killed my party fast, especially since this was right after a Saurian fight and I was low on HP and MP. Now I have to do the whole section again. Damn! >_<

Btw, any tips on how to defeat the Feral Retriever? I’m doing it before I tackle Matheus again.

Mateus, btw. :sunglasses:
It’s been too long since I played the game… nothing comes to mind.

:hahaha; I had a similar issue with a Chocobo at some point as well. Tougher than they look!

I simply have no clue how you play your game, wilf, to not only be underleveled but also beaten by a boss.

I was beaten by bosses plenty of times. What does that mean? O_o

Pacing is critical to any story, which is why I don’t understand why FF12 is so bad at it. At first it was churning out plot points and characters like nobody’s business. The world and the political situation were actually pretty interesting. Basch was cool. Ashe brooded about carrying the burden of restoring her kingdom without complaining. I enjoyed the fact that Vaan was a voyeur of the events and as far as I’ve played remains a character who believes in restoring Dalmasca, not because he’s secretly the Emperor’s son or something cliche like that. Balthier’s dialogue was superb. Everything was working fine.

Then Penelo joins the party and you have to go through the Sandsea and Raithwall’s Tomb. Those events are a drastic turn from the pacing before and seem to define how the rest of the game is revealed. Penelo seemed to have a growing connection with Larsa before she joined but…she doesn’t do anythng afterwards. She might have three lines or less in any scene. You trudge through the Sandsea and the Tomb on essentially an important fetch quest and during this time, nothing really complementary to the story happens. Afterwards, yeah, what happens on the Leviathan and Vossler’s betrayal were great but then you we get the plot device of the item-everyone-must-have. After that, it seems I have go through two dungeons for five minutes of interesting scenes. That’s not great pacing to me. FFX, 9, and 7 were way better at telling their stories without making me feel like I have to work through boring dungeons to get a sense of what’s going on.

Sin: I guess I’ve been playing the game a little too safely. For example I didn’t hunt a Mark until my whole party was as high as it in level or more. But now I realize the hunts (and subquests) are there help you level up in the first place. I’m not used to games that force you to grind beyond what you have to do to get from point A to Point B.

And some of the Bosses are frustratingly cheap. -_-

Btw this constant subquesting also worsens the problem Mullenkamp mentions, as by the time I get back to the current Boss, the storywise impact of the fight has lessened.

Anyway, I went back and finished the Desert Patient subquest. My party is now level 27. I plan to Hunt the Feral Retriever and the Earth Tyrant now, just to make sure they’re strong enough for Mateus. Any flaw in that plan?

Is Mateus that first Esper? It’s been a while. I actually got tired of FF12 a long time ago because it required about 5+ hours of grinding from place to place once I got further. I was a little annoyed at that time. I can go back to it but I suppose I’ll have to ask my own questions once I get my copy of FF12 I lent out back. Since I have y’all as resources
