I like Silent Hill the best. Silent Hill 2 to be exact.

I think Silent Hill is so great because of it’s plot and character development (talking about #2). And the images are disturbing.
It’s not like RE. It doesn’t rely on jumpy moments.
SH has a very scary atmosphere. And the weapons are found in a realistic place too. Not like RE.

Did I mention SH’S Music? IT’S AMAZING! I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THE SOUNDTRACK!!

For me it would be the original PC “Alone in the Dark” back in the early 90’s.
Best horror game? I’d have to say Mary Kate and Ashley Olson’s Shopping Adventure o_0. But seriously I think I was scared most by Silent Hill, damn creepy sound effects >_<.
Silent Hill, by a long way. It just has that scary atmosphere.
While other ones, like RE, go for the “jump” factor, more than anything.

fatal frame is my favorite. I got chills just playing it in the first 5 minutes. and could not even play it again. the atmosphere is really realistic
Actually Now that I think about it - System Shock 2 would by far be the scariest game I have ever played. I know people who never finished it because it was too freaky.
RE because it was the first, and I played it in the dark in a house by myself when I was eight. I had nightmare for months. waits for the beating… waiting…
RE. its the only one I have played at this time.
