Actually! SK brings up a VERY good point. Every game after X3 (exempt X4) throws in a lot of stupid little new features that don’t really add to the game, and make it ridiculous.
It was kinda annoying in X3, but I think I hated X3 more cos the music was just a cacophony of UGLY sounds. Sometimes the rhythm guitars play every note in the scale all at once, at spots where dissonance was obviously not intended. If anybody doesn’t know what it sounds like to play several notes in the scale at once, here’s what it sounds like: http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/SG/SUCKS.mid This made it VERY hard for me to play the game.
It was too confusing to be useful in X5. They start doing two armors for X (you needed to get all the parts before you used it), and these little abilities, independant of capsules, that you could equip to make you run faster, jump higher, shoot charged shots without charging, and other stuff. Problem is, they never explained how to get abilities There’s an FAQ on how it works, I wish I knew how they figured it out, I didn’t figure it out.
The same features of X5 absolutely KILLED X6. In X6, you start out with an old X5 armor already, but you have the option to pick X with no armor. Why would you do this? Cos you can equip more of those independant abilities without armor. Why would you NEVER use X with no armor, though? Some levels are impossible to beat without air dash, and in other levels, enemies are virtually impossible to beat without Giga Crush attacks (a feature that started with X2, you’ll see when you get the X2 armor :P), as well as armor allowing to to take half damage. Most levels are unfeasibly hard with regular X, which to me, equates to flat out unfairness. You COULD say that my point is stupid, and that it’s dumb to try and play through the game without the aid of armor and other stuff, but if that was the truth, then why did they give you the option to go without armor in the first place? You’re FORCED to use the Armor in the opening level. If you can handle this nightmare of a problem with X, it might not be that bad. It frustrated me, because I find beating the MMX games with absolutely nothing (with X) to be a hobby, and it literally is impossible in X6.
X7 pulled it off ok, I guess. This might be partly due to the different play style, and partly because you can choose exactly who you get the abilities for, and which one. It was just more user friendly, and far less ridiculous. This is probably why I liked X7 better than the previous two: it was just a breath of fresh air from the poorly executed X5 and X6, but it managed to take the ideas from both and do them in a very organized manner. Granted, I haven’t played the hell out of this one like I have the other 6. Yet.
I got annoyed when they put Zero as a main character. Okay, I like Zero and all, and he’s all badass and shit, but really, they didn’t balance the difficulity between using X and Zero. It was way too easy to beat levels with Zero, and very hard to do so with X for a majority of the games. And I agree with SG, don’t get me started with the armor and extra ability shit, gawd.
I think the last one I played was…X5 I think, where there was a level where you were ontop of a train or something.
Anyway, I didn’t really pay attention to any of the shit SG mentioned, I just played, but I don’t really remember what I thought.
But since we’re talking about it, I downloaded X2 and X3, and I beat X2 today (in 5 hours…), and it was fun, a little difficult in spots (and annoying too…) but overall, I remembered most of it pretty well for only ever having played it one time like, 7 years ago or whatever. I’ve never played X3 before, but meh. I played the first level and suddenly there’s Zero, and that just doesn’t really make and sense.
But I’ve been playing Mega Man for fucking ever. And I remember just running around and shooting shit, and that’s nice and simple - yet complicated enough to make you scream at your television. But from the sounds of it, I don’t think I really dig all this complication. One of the best aspects of Mega Man is that it’s simple - you run around, you shoot stuff, they die, you get new weapons and thats it. They didn’t even fuck the formula up with shooting up and ducking and stuff. I mean, it’s so simple and so hard - it’s perfect. Giga Crush or whatever can just suck a dick.
And speaking of which, that damn Giga Crush is useful only in the Bubble guy stage on X2 to kill that fish thing. Past that it’s useless. Further speaking of which, getting that damn heart container on that stage is a pain in the genitals - it took me 20 minutes to get that one alone. Another irritating one is the one on the Crystal guy stage. Jesus fuck christ that shit is hard on a keyboard >|
Yeah, Epic’s pretty much right…take my opinions a little lightly, because they’re all based off of how the game plays with X. I play through with Zero sometimes, but I’m an X specialist
Really? I always saw it as fairly easy, the Bubble Crab one. You do a charge of the bubble weapon and you leap superfuckinghigh underwater, allowing you to reach it in a single jump. But if you used the OTHER method then yeah you’ve been unnecessarily shooting yourself in the balls.
The Crystal Snail heart though, that one IS a bitch to get.
Because they never work right with emulators. I used to have one back in the day when I first started playing roms, but there was always a problem with the buttons and the rom. besides, if the favorites are X4-X7, then that won’t do me much good.
Well, I went to gamestop and found X4 for $7 so I got it. Pretty nice so far, the anime sequences sort of suck and are annoying though.

Well i got myself a controler and it works perfectly with my emulator,i get to play or sorts of games as fast paced as the X series without problems.
Mastermune, wouldja mind using the “quote” button instead of indiscriminately just copy&pasting the other post into your message? Anyways … hmm. I guess I can’t decide which one I like the best, so I’ll just say that Duff McWhalen has THE AWESOMEST NAME EVAR, and vote for X2, since Duff stole Bubble Crab’s themesong.
Heh idk what you people are talking about, I can handel Mega Man games with the keyboard just fine, you just need the right controls >.>;; points to sg <.<
The most annoying this about X6 and X7 would have to be saving the reploids >.< I mean, at least in x5 you didn’t have to worry about one diieing on you cause you really didnt get much from them, now you have to save them so you can make sure to get all the upgrades and stuff.
Hey I was looking at some other MMx stuff and found that X command mission is coming out this month while X8 is coming out this fall
I can’t wait for X8 especially cause …
WARNING HUGE SPOILER:sigma dies in x8
Yeah, that’s what I used to try to do, but I always missed the platform by a hair’s breadth. Last time I played, though, I tried climbing up the right-hand wall, dashing left with a charged-up Speed Burner (which still works underwater) and air-dashing right afterwards. It worked on the second or third try.
Heh, has anyone ever got the gun capsul in X2 without the air dash? Though I can’t do it anymore, i SWEAR I’ve done it at least once. It’s the devil to do it.
But what’s to say he won’t be back in X9? Capcom has a history of killing characters and bringing them back. I’ve heard that Zero dies several times in the X series. Also, just look at RE with Wesker being brought back.
The death of a Capcom chracter is never permanent.
Yeah, I ended up getting the Bubble level Heart tank by climbing up the left hand wall, above the ramp that goes down to the pit that the fish thing goes into. I bubbled up there then charged the fire dash thing. Then I jumped off, air dashed over and fire dashed and I ran right into the bubble thing. I could never get close enough off the right hand wall, I kept hitting that cieling.
