Finished going over the parts I missed from EA’s conference due to 1up’s technical glitches. You’d think that after so many years I would learn that they will, without fail, have technical glitches in their E3 coverage.
Anyways to make EA’s conference short, Need for Speed, shooters, more shooters, even more shooters, an expansion pack (for a shooter), sports and fitness titles (the later of which put all of MS’s stuff to shame), My Sims 3, shooters again, still more shooters, [STRIKE]shooters[/STRIKE] Star Wars: Old Republic.
Still better than MS lineup of games with less functionality than PS2’s Eye Toy 1.
Old Republic has a lot of potential because of the source material and the people making it. The problem is how do you stop the servers from being 95% Sith? Only time will tell.
This is a spectacularly awful E3 up to now. I hope Valve doesn’t disappoint tonight. I get the feeling that with how things are going, the Portal 2 cancellation won’t be for a Half Life project.
No Beyond Good and Evil 2, but just knowing that both Rez is getting a follow up and the guy behind Out of This World is up to something has made Ubisoft’s conference the conference to beat this year regardless of all the wasted space and rehashed material (although thus far that isn’t saying much given the sheer number of copy pasta shooters seen thus far).
Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword looks like shit. Maybe it was technical difficulties, but the controls look fucking clunky. Lack of aiming can blow me as well.
Otherwise… There’s a lot of good stuff coming out this year. The Kirby game shocked the hell out of me. I love the Yarn graphical style. A new DKC with Donkey and Diddy is definately something I’ll pick up.
I would’ve wanted a release date for the 3DS, but it sounds like it’s coming awfully soon. The graphical update is what sold me. I wasn’t going to double and triple dip for the same system with new bells and whistles. Oh, and NEW KID ICARUS!!
Gotta give Nintendo Credit, they always play really close to the chest, but this time it was worth it.
Whelp, Nintendo blew Microsoft out of the water. It faltered a bit with the Mario sports, party, and dance games, but everything after was gold.
A cel-shaded Zelda with an adult Link? It looks fantastic. Not quite sold on the controls yet (it was an alpha build being played by an old man without an actual TV in front of him), but the world and art direction are fantastic.
Retro Studios brings Donkey Kong Country back.
Kirby returns to a console… in Yarn form. …ok.
And the 3DS will have the return of KID FUCKING ICARUS.
The worst thing about showcasing the 3DS is that we can’t freaking see how the 3D works from our screens. It’s maddening. All these developers talking about how it’s the best thing in the whole entire world and we can’t even tell. I can’t wait to see one for real.
Lots of games but no real content save for LBP2 and Twisted Metal. Move was all hot air. And 5 new seconds of The 3rd Birthday footage be damned. It’s not even a loving contest at this point.
I’m gonna go and rewatch Nintendo’s conference again to remind myself that this hasn’t been the worst E3 ever.
Valve’s announcement was a colossal disappointment. At least the 3DS is a cool machine, though we can’t know more than that since it requires being held to be appreciated.
The 3DS looks pretty neat, and the screenshots of games I’ve seen for it so far look really great. (Plus, there were some possible OoT remake pics…maybe we’re not done yet?)
And Kinect is such a ripoff of the Wii, it’s not even funny anymore. Really Microsoft? You couldn’t at least make it a little original? More so, I wonder who’s gonna pay an extra $150 for it. Fail.
I’m thinking the OoT pics were just kind of a tech demo. Like that remade opening to FFVII back when the PS3 was showcased.
I mean, if Nintendo were remaking The Ocarina of fucking Time I think it’d get a bit more press than ‘here are a few hidden screenshots buried on our site’. The graphics don’t even look any different than the N64 original, why put it on the 3DS without a graphical upgrade?
I was hoping this would be a good year for Nintendo’s e3 coverage! I hope there’s going to be a lot more depth in Skyward Sword’s gameplay. Being able to jump at will, dash, motion fighting, etc sounds like it’ll bring about some excitement! But… judging from the photo released last e3, the one with Link with his back turned with the little ghost girl who’s brooch resembles the Master Sword, it looks like it’s not going to be as dark and gritty the picture portrayed. Here’s hoping for a graphic revamp to the max. Also, hahaha, they were saying way before and yesterday they wanted a release THIS year.
Also… NEW GOLDENEYE???
I’m a bit more excited about Epic Mickey now than I am Kid Icarus, to be honest. The Kid looks awesome and everything, but I’m really pulling for the Furher Mouse on this one.
Anyone notice how, when they were announcing third party developers bringing games to th3 3DS, NO ONE FUCKING CLAPPED for EA Games? There. Not even the audience gave a shit about sports games.
The spokesperson for the 3DS should speak more. Totally digging the engrish accent.
Mario Sports? Guess they couldn’t be wholly satisfied with Mario Lacrosse and Mario Water Polo. Just cap the sports series all in one go. Bah.
I’m not too worried about Zelda’s control as every 3d game’s control has been a-ok. Perhaps after impressionist-Link we can have Russian-avantgarde-Link:The Adventures of a Triangle hehe.
What would get me to buy the move? If it were useable with Portal 2. That would fucking rock, as disappointing as Valve’s announcement was. On another positive note, Dead Space 2 will come with an HD version of Dead Space Extraction (which was very good!) and will be move enabled.
Oooh a new portable system that is “3D”. Not impressed. The only portable game I’ve enjoyed since Mattel’s Football 2 is FFVI Advance.
The 3D push (I mean televisions, not handhelds) is interesting. Early adapters bought their 1080p displays in 2007. Three years later, we’re being pushed 3D TVs with a $5000 price tag. I’m surprised the push has started so soon after the huge change from standard def to high def. Direct TV plans to begin broadcasting in 3D this year, sporting events in 3D, PS3 games coming soon, etc.
When I bought my set, I figured 1080p would be the standard for 15-20 years. Well, now you need 3D. Crazy.
On that note, what would get me to buy a Kinect? Child of Eden looked to be the only game worth a damn for that but it seems likely that they’ll be porting that to the other consoles as well and then I can just stick it into my Wii instead and not have to pay an extra $200 for an accessory that let’s me pretend to sit in a Ferrari that I can only steer and not feel the glory of acceleration (which defeats the entire point of owning a loving Ferrari).
I liked the Star Wars Rail Jedi game, but other than that, I’m not interested by anything they have to offer (yet). I wonder how long it takes to get a move enabled SW game.
