Wow after having played DQ8, I just looked at 7 for shits and giggles and fuck does the game look and sound like ass.
I didn’t like it either. It was too long and looking for those puzzle pieces were a pain
PS1 games don’t age well at all
Dude, I don’t need to go back to know that!
(Wait, I suppose I’m supposed to go back so that I can finish it… someday. I can’t believe that I finished 8 before 7. DQ8 is one of the few games I’ve competed in a long while.)
So, more shits than giggles?
Sin: remember in that other thread where you said that you didn’t want to play the NES DW4 since it looks so bad, and you’d rather play the PSX version? Allow me to say that, like DW7, it didn’t age well. Hell, DQ5 on PS2 didn’t age well, and it’s barely 2 years old. I say, all in all, the NES version actually held up better.
7 always did look and sound terrible, but I liked it so I played it countless hours. On an unrelated subject, I was playing dw3 on my palm pilot today and was fighting kandar the second time and I realized my rom was f’d up. I took over 2500 hp off of him and he only has 400. I’m doing a Hero’s Quest so I only have myself in the party, but i’m at level 30. So I decided to give up.
If nothing else, Dragon Quest is a series where the graphics really are unimportant, more so than any other RPG series. Every Dragon Quest game has had sub-par graphics (with the possible exception of maybe Dragon Quest VI and Dragon Quest IIIr), and it’s never really been an issue. If you really want shits and giggles, play the original Famicom or MSX version of the first Dragon Quest (the graphics were actually improved quite a bit for the American release).
Of course, Dragon Quest VIII seems to be a turning point in the DQ series graphically. And while part of me is glad to be able to play through a game while looking at Jessica’s enormous cleavage in great detail the entire time, another part of me kind of yearns for the more simplistic style of previous DQ games…
But I’m mostly grateful that they were able to capture the “feel” of the DQ series in DQVIII successfully, something I was worried about when the game was first announced.
But back to the original point, since I play more classic games than modern games anyway, I can’t say I’m ever bothered by graphics… Hell, I’ve played more Atari 2600 games than anything else the past couple weeks…>_>
buys game
I was looking at 7 and I really noticed 8 was a perfect transition of 7’s graphics into what it became in the 3D/cel shaded form.
And Sohee: cleavage is only the start of it. Its just…wow…o_O
In the words of the king of Argonia.
Va-va-VOOM.
It was moreso hilarious as for me she was wearing the bunnysuit at the time.
I think the Dragon Quest games for snes had good, easy-to-see graphics. SNES graphics tend to be detailed enough, but not grainy, so you can see it easily
And the battles in DQ7 did have nice graphics, monsters, and backgrounds
I looked up DQ4 on google recently for PS1 and the graphics look good for PS1 game
The thing is PS1 had this silly fad when they put 2D sprites on a 3D background. I dont think they do that anymore, it’s all about cel shading now
And DQ8 looks like it has awesome graphics and good character designs
My friends and I refer to her as a titty-elemental character. I’ve got my Hero, my Thief, my Cleric (aka Dante), and my Titty-Elemental.
While I believe Jessica a “Va-Va-VOOM”, I’m disapointed that her huge package doesn’t bounce. Where’s the bounce? I guess I’m just biased in that I wish all female characters should be created and animated by Team Ninja.
As per the DQVII and DQVIII graphics debate, I personally don’t mind DWVII at after seeing and playing DQVIII. My friend bought the game and I’ve played for a good few hours, but when I got home I started playing DWVIII with no problems. I love the game and I am planning on spending the required 100+ hours with it.
DW7 was too long. I mean 20 phucking hours into the game you finally got Jobs. I wish I had my data from it because i had all kinds of rare monsters in the zoo
You don’t see it bouncing? I don’t strain myself to see things like this, but it does bounce, believe me.
I’m playin DWVII right now and I’m at the first Dharma Casino. I got pretty much everything but the Dolphin Shiel. The completist in me won’t let me leave until I have it. The slots haven’t been kind to me though. Anybody have a good strategy? I only need like 5,000 tokens to be happy.
Oh man, I hate gambling
Wasn’t the casino at the end? God said at the end to gamble at the casino
Kaiser, if you do not have anything helpful to contribute, please don’t post.
Sin has an excellent Casino Gambling Guide attached to the Coastal section of the DW7’s shrine’s walkthrough.
I would wait until coastal for gambling, the prizes are much better. Between the 4 of us who worked on the DW7 shrine I think we put together the best site there is on the net for that game.
