Developing Dissida Details

I really don’t like what they’ve done with Kefka’s design. The original version was softer, more delicate features, and not such a deeply etched, goes-all-the-way-to-his eyes smile, and he’s now got a serious hunch. Makes the character seem stupider.

And I wish they had given Terra green hair, for nostalgia’s sake :confused:

Probably sticking with the original character designs as much as possible is going to be Square’s best bet, since a lot if not most of the sales are going to come from nostalgia factor.

Curtis: Wish granted

-Terra, “FF6 game color scheme”

Cool. Why did she have blonde hair in the other one, though? Is it like you can change the color scheme of characters, like in World of Warcraft? Cause that would be even lamer…

hehe ok this was first post i read this morning

It would for sure be the first time that our m8’s across the sea did not have a “point of view or hope”.

It is a shame the EU gets the later release date on these games but I have to tell you for you sure you get the most finished of the versions. Like with FFX that was released in America we did not even have Dark Ions or like with the Crisis Core you all got the great edition with the art book. You might get it later but you all get more then you know over their in UK.

In Amano art, practically everyone has either blond or black hair. There’s not much color except in the clothing (as an example, check out the art for Relm). Even skin seems to be much whiter than usual.

Curtis: No you can change the color scheme of characters like in Super Smash Brothers.

Plus as Cid mentioned, all the character designs are BASED on Amano’s art that Nomura uses as the basis in the setting up the characters’ looks. In fact, Chaos’ 4-armed look is Amano’s doing.

A new challenger has appeared!

Apparently a first generation fighter with a cast of 20 still has room for an occasional unlockable character.

So now that we have some XI representation I can only hope that Gilgamesh will be repping XII.

ugh, all tarus must die

The epic fight you’ll waited and expected for!!

Damn Sephy’s Supernova nearly wiped Cloud at nearly full health. O_o

I’m depressed though that they didn’t have that kick ass Jenova Synthesis BGM for that fight (here’s hoping that stages will have multiple BGMs).

just a thought. but if they’ve got someone from ffXI then…

  1. how come it wasn’t in the videos
  2. are they likely to do characters from 12 and 13
  3. whose most likely to be from these two games (for ffXII i’d like balthier or ashe (to balance the genders? + vaan would be lame) and for ffXIII lightning or noctis)

oh, and killmore, it may be first generation fighting but they have a lot of material to work from and have the technology to possibly go to 30 or 40 (three characters for each game? antagonist, protagonist + one extra? = 33 if they add two more for ffXI or = 39 if done for all up to ffXIII)

  1. They put out videos of the content they’d announced. They’re not going to include content they haven’t announced yet.

  2. 12, maybe. 13, very unlikely.

  3. Most likely Vaan and Vayne, although Balthier might be a nice surprise.

You’re all wrong! XII’s rep will be Gabranth.

killmore - a pointer for you. alot of the chosen characters have a transformation element for example…
kuja/zidane -> trance forms
Cecil (darknight -> paladin)
onion knight -> ninja/sage
garland -> chaos
jecht -> braska’s aeon
ultamica -> griever

so they’ll most likely go for vayne (the undying) if ffXII characters are included

cidofas - why is ffXIII ‘very unlikely’, ill admit its the least likely but never doubt anything (and i want noctis to appear (he looks powerful!!))
we don’t even know when dissidia is being released. ffxiii is being released late 2009 so they could sneak in someone (for example, vaan and penelo were first intro’d in another game called something like ‘Itadaki Street’ ayear before ffxii)

Dissidia has been announced for release on December 18th. So all the characters have most probably been announced by now. And the FF12 one is indeed Gabranth for whatever whacked out reason.

I think FF13 is unlikely precisely because of all the confusion and slowness with its production. Unlike FF12, which was always a sure thing for the PS2, FF13 has taken forever and is being released three different ways on three different platforms. I don’t think Squeenix actually has their act together about it yet, which is why I didn’t think it was likely that an FF13 character would be in Dissidia.

In addition, Itadaki Street Special has no story, just cameos. Dissidia promises to have a story, so possibly spoiling things from a game that isn’t released yet wouldn’t make sense.

Well, there may be bit still secret characters that actually don’t play in the main storyline. I’m going for Basch for one thing.

The most likely reason (not including the GameFAQs theory) is because out of all the characters he had the biggest role in the game. He killed the king and ended the war, anytime Bashe came up during story events he was usually referenced, he was the top judge, and he was Vayne’s right-hand man (right up until he betrayed him).

Also remember that FF XII was essentially a retelling of the original Star Wars trilogy (just with less epic space battles and lightsaber action) and that most of the characters had a SW equivalent. Gabranth just so happens to be FF XII’s equivalent to Darth Vader (and in a SW fan game who do think will most likely make an appearance Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, or Darth Vader?).

Besides the previews kept pinning XI’s and XII’s reps as neutral to the conflict. XI’s rep was good aligned in XI but in an arrogant way (I’ve never played XI so I can’t give very accurate details). Then there’s Gabranth who was siding with the wrong crowd until he is charged with protecting Larsa and ultimately betrays Vayne towards this end.

In all seriousness though I would’ve preferred Dr. Cid to Gabranth for XII’s slot, but I guess Kefka’s got the mad villain angle covered already (he’s still an awesome villain though). ;_;

The official statement that was going around on that subject is that since FF XIII is still in development the characters abilities haven’t been finalized and they don’t want to display any of the characters with or without talents that they will eventually have for their respective games. Basically the characters are not finalized at this time and cannot be put into this side game. They’ll have to wait for Dissida 2.

And here’s a pointer for you too balthierfan. While some characters can transform like Terra and so on, other characters like Squall and Cloud cannot which kinda defeats that theory. Also while Gabranth himself didn’t undergo any such transformation one of the judges (Bergan) did get high off of Nethicite and promptly went to town on Mt. Bur-Omisace along with offing the Grand Kiltias. They could have Gabranth do the same for Dissida.

Of course this would matter if the debate was still open but it’s not. Gabranth is going to represent XII in Dissida.

I’m thinking that they may have Gabranth appear as Bashe for his alt costume like Tina’s green hair, or Cloud’s AC appearance and so on, but then I’m not Squeenix so what do I know.

I really hope Dissidia does well enough for a sequel, and hopefully the sequel would be more of a Smash Brothers free-for-all.

Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar!
