D&D Character Creation Help

Hey guys, i am new to the D&D world…3rd edition n all that. I live in a small town, and i have no idea how to create a player…and i really want to play a game online. I have a very creative imagination, and am dying to express it! I am currently reading the Dark Elf Trilogy, and after reading all about Drizzt i am more than ready to devote a significant amount of time to a D&D game. So, please, if someone could walk me through a character creation or at least give me a site that could help me out i would be most grateful.
