I am running windows xp. I’m trying to run Baldur’s Gate 1 but I’m having some problems running the setup file.
I always get this error message: c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.
So far I’ve tried:
Running Program Compatibality Wizard to set it as windows 98 (the os it originaly ran in)
Using a Dos emulator to run the setup file (DOSBox, I couldn’t quite get it to work however)
Ice cubes
Any other ideas? This game is from 1998 for chrisakes and there should be a way to get it to work
Sorry for the late response, i was at work, then my connection went dead. =(
Basically, you need to “reinstall” that system file. To do it, you need the CD, which is why i asked.
Put the CD in your CD drive, then open a command prompt (Start > Run > CMD if you don’t know how). Type this in at the prompt. Each is a separate command:
(each is one line, begining with expand and ending with .whatever). Obviously, CD-ROM drive letter is wherever the CD is, like D:\ or E:. Exit the command prompt, then try running the game.
If this doesn’t work, say so. There is more we can do, i just don’t want to overkill it
