Christmas Gifts for Mom

Ok. My mom is cool beans and all, and I’ve given her a lot of shit this year so I wanted to do something special. Problem is, I’m shit outta ideas.

My mom reads a whoooole lot, so books are the obvious first choice. However, come on - how hokey is a book? Not much in a gift like that that seems very special. She’s into Mysteries, so if anyone has any good mysteries then fork em over (I do plan on getting her a copy of “The DaVinci Code”…anybody read it, and is it a mystery or what?)

She also has a metric assload of jewlery, so I really don’t feel like going that route, and I did socks from ages 7-14, so that’s out too. Ties don’t work for women, and soap on a rope died with Kurt Cobain.

Which leaves me here, on square one. I’d prefer simple gifts, nothing overly elaborate (A DVD PLAYER WITH A 74" FLATSCREEN WALL MOUNT PLASMA TV!!!11) or overly expensive (we’re talking $70 at most), that and our family has always been very simple and thoughtful at this time of year.

So what are you guys getting your mom’s? And feel free to throw any ideas my way.

My mom always seems to like perfume. You could also make a basket of stuff at a “Bath and Body Works” store.

Lotion.

I’m getting my mom tickets to the opera… 'cause she hasn’t been in a long time, and I’ve never been. But, um… how about tickets to one of those murder mystery shows, where you get to be a participant and solve the crime and stuff?

If I can find the cash, a Tenacious D Cd or another Anne Rice book. She normally tells everyone what she wants.

I Still have no Idea what I’m getting my mom. :stuck_out_tongue:

The DaVinci code is more of a intellectual suspense than a mystery, that challenges Christanity. I would recommed it as a add-on gift.

My mom says that she wants the Counting Crows Greatest Hits CD… well technically I can afford it, but good luck on me being able to go out and get it.

My Mother read The DaVinci Code and really enjoyed it. I’m sure thats a good idea.

I’ve been to one of those Astral, and that’s actually a really really great idea - however seeing as how what season it is, this isn’t exactly the best time for “shows”, so tickets to one would be hard to find.

My sister and I are getting my mom a digital camera.

<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> Birth control.

Absolutely nothing.

If it’s a movie/book that stars George Clooney or has it on the lid/cover, it’s a sure hit… (Of course, it’s my mom we’re talking about)

Trust me Sorc, if she likes to read, a book will definately be appreciated. Even so, you should get her something to go along with the book.

Yeah, I guess that’s true. Murder isn’t exactly… uh, christmassy. heh. <.<; But still… I’ve seen tickets on sale for shows months in advance. So you might be able to get her some for say, April, and then she gets to anticipate going from now til then.

Me and my family aren’t on good terms, so I don’t give them presents and they don’t give me presents. And I don’t really celebrate Christmas.

You should go with a book. If you want it to seem a bit special, just see if you can find a luxury edition.

Let me guess, you’re Jewish :hahaha; . No offense intended.

Ahkeeyuu, I said “stuff” because there is a metric ass load of different things at those stores.

I decided that, for christmas gifts this year, I’m gonna give her soem macaroni art. You know, like the stuff you make in Arts and Crafts when you’re in 1st Grade? I’m gonna make a macaroni Happy face, then write down on the bottom, in big marker letters, “My momy” (mommy spelled wrong intentionally, of course). She loves the nostalgia and humor in it.

Well, here’s a few ideas, but they might not be your style.

  1. Just ask her if there’s anything she wants. SHe’ll still be surprised, cos she doesn’t know what the hell you’re gonna get her :stuck_out_tongue:

  2. Hand draw her a card. If you REALLY put some uh…love (For lack of better word) into it, it will really show, and they make a nice gift, as dumb as it may seem.

  3. Try and think really hard to remember anything she’s expressed a desire for in the past. That’s more like a hint than an idea for a gift though :stuck_out_tongue:

Like I said, you might not like these…I like to just be straightforward with people who recieve gifts from me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Problem is, I have asked her what she wants. She doesn’t know >.<
