Building a PC

And I wanna have some suggestions for what hardware to get. I know around what specifications I want, but the whole thing about compatibility kills me every time.
I’ll get a list of some key pieces, and any input is welcome. I’m trying to get a PC that’s really good for gaming, but also can video capture. I’ll probably need to get a PCI video capture card, though. (Also, now that I have a job, I can make the money to pay for all this)

I think you can tell what else I need (sound card, etc.)
I want to have 5.1 surround sound on the computer, too. D:

Get some nails. And a big hammer. A hammer would be good. Yeah. :stuck_out_tongue:

some sites give you configurable systems that show what hardware is compatable, use one of those if you’re not sure

I’m building a computer these days myself and I’m pretty sure you don’t need hammer nor nails. You may need a screwdriver though, and nuts and bolts. Even then, not too many (most of the nuts and bolts should come with the parts).

Dude, “some sites” doesn’t help me that much. I’d google for it if half of them weren’t fake links that end up at some ad-filled bullshit place.

i dont kno any American sites fot it but i can give you an english one http://www.cclcomputers.biz/acatalog/

It was a joke.

And try www.newegg.com and www.tiger-direct.com

Ewww. All those bad and ugly components.
I would say more, but I’m pretty sure everyone already knows about my strange opinions about PCs. Certainly about my distaste for AMD, and CRT screens.

Check what Alienware puts into their PCs. They’re hardcore gaming PCs.

And they cost an arm, leg, and sometimes your first born child.

I didn’t say he should buy one of them, just look at the components they put in them.

Don’t buy a PCI video card. Just trust me on this one.

He wants to buy a PCI videocapture card, not a PCI video card. There’s a difference.

Well if you’re making a gaming PC, you NEED one of these: http://www.xoxide.com/modifiedcases.html

Of course they’re not cheap but DAMN are they the coolest PC cases out there.

Urk, I fucking LOVE YOU

Look at that skin XD (Computer case skin, not female skin >.>;)

I love you too. I only found the site today but it’s like THE site for gaming or LAN shit. Or even if you just want some cool stuff for your PC.

Yeah, steve has enough money for both a decent AGP video card and a video capture card, plus all the other needed shit. I don’t think so.

I will eventually. There is overtime.
Edit: I don’t plan on getting this until probably the end of summer.

You should tell us your budge so we know what price range to aim for too.

Well, I get 5.15 an hour, and I’m willing to work as much as possible.
So around 1.2k. (This is many months of work ahead of me.)
Edit: So that’s… about 6.5 weeks if it’s 40 hours a week in the summer, but I can work a total of 20 during school, so it’s less than 4 months.

Personally, I think you’re overdoing it on the motherboard and RAM, but skimping on the video and monitor.
