I have some bad news for anyone who did the Firefox study I posted earlier… there seems to be a bug with one of the scripts (either server-side or client-side) that prevented the data from being sent. >_< Unfortunately I have to do it all over again!
Here’s the new bit: Anyone who takes part in the study is entered into a draw for a $50.00 cash prize! (There’s also two $10.00 second prizes.) Not bad for about thirty seconds of work! The odds for winning are also pretty good.
The extension should be compatible with all stable releases of Firefox (1.0x and 1.5). I’d like as many people as possible to take part so our data can really be useful!
Wait, I just restarted Firefox after installation and got a message saying “Webstats has finished collecting statistics. Please uninstall” even though I installed the new version (And had uninstalled the old one a while ago). Is this a problem?
Ah… sorry. Do the following:
Go to the URL “about:config”
On the text box that appears, type “webstats”
You should see a bold entry that says “webstats.finished”. Double-click it to turn it to “false”. That’s it.
They might, but probably not in any significant fashion. If you could turn them off for the duration, that’d be best, but if you really like them, leave them on and don’t worry about it.
Cavelcade: Did you install it or just download it? Did you have it before?
…Well, I think I had the old downloaded, but I never got round to extracting it to the proper destination.
This one got installed as an extension and said “This will be activated (or whatever) next time you restart Mozilla.” Which was after I turned off my computer. Since I was too lazy to do it at the time. >>;
If you are saying that you restart Firefox and you get no message, that’s not a problem. You don’t get any confirmation or anything, but if you check in Tools->Extensions you can see it’s installed.
