I made a Live Arcade binge the other night. Instead of threads for each one, I shall post about them in this one thread
Braid - I’ve been wanting to play this for some time, but 1200 points was robbery for a game this simple looking. I saw it was finally down to 800 so I snatched it up. I’ve heard about it’s fantastic story, but since I haven’t made much progress on it, I can’t comment. The writing is beautiful though, the visuals totally belie the goofy 16 bit sprites. What grips me however is the music. I love the music. I can’t say that enough. It’s beautiful! I haven’t been this stirred up by a soundtrack since FF’s glory days. Damn. The puzzles are frustrating me, but I would go through them forever just to listen to the wonderful soundtrack.
Shadow Complex - as has been said, it’s just like playing super metroid. Heh, not much else to say on that. They did everything right in terms of getting down the feeling of a classic side scrolling run and gun cos I feel the same joy going through this game as I did back then. The story is interesting to boot.
Limbo - Only played the demo; I got the full version but havent played it yet. Again, I love the visuals. Despite the fact its all shades of black, white and grey, it’s so detailed and richly animated. I love the atmosphere. I can’t wait to really dig into it.
I also got Earthworm Jim, which is fun. Haven’t played the original so it was cool to go and play it now.
