Braces :#

I just got braces a couple of days ago and I was wondering if any of you had any experience with them. I’ve always had a really small mouth and when I had the first six put on, they felt really weird. I went home and did my best that I could with them. I woke up the next day with my whole mouth swollen. I just came back from the orthodontist again. I had the two braces that were slashing my gums removed and I got this really cool mouth gel. It puts like a shell around the swollen areas of my gums and they feel a lot better now.

Yap, damn old braces I had them for three years. I will tell yo this, once you get them taken off your teeth are going to feel HUGE and ever so smooth… Advice, WATCH OUT FOR THE EXTRA STICKY STUFF… like laffy taffy, carmel… because if you chew that feels her teeth ack you can pull off a bracer, or the wire, and I will tell ya… when t pops off it doesn’t feel right on how it did. Other then that, GET READY FOR THE ANNOYING PAIN, that WONT go away!

I got braces a few weeks ago. They hurt like a bitch for the first week, then it sort of goes away until you get your wire tightened.

Get ready for pain every month. They have to get tightened periodically which will make your mouth very sore- especially your teeth. Even the tiniest click against your top and bottom teeth will make you yelp. I got this type of wax stuff to put on to ease my pain. I got them off about 4 years ago. I still have to wear retainers at night, but they’re much better than the braces.

Just got mine off! And Liadan’s right, my teeth felt really, really weird afterwards. And Evas right about the pain. Enjoy!

Here Comes the pain!!

Yep, It hurts for a bit.

I do not envy you. AT. ALL.

I have retainers, and they hurt like…

Well, a very painful thing.

Yeah, retainers kinda suck, but Ive been wearing them 3 years. The first year I had to wear them all of the time and let me tell you this-WEAR THEM! If you don’t your teeth will move. In the next few years, you can afford to take them off every few nights, like I do, although they will be quite tight going back in, but you’ll get used to them. Be aware that if you get any sores in your mouth, you WILL feel it, gauranteed, especially with retainers, and that may be awkward, painful and uncomfortable, although with braces, more so. But you know what makes up for all of this? A beautiful smile. As much as I’ve cursed my braces, having straight, white healthy teeth was worth it.

You sound like my dentist. Far too much like my dentist.

Ooops >> But it’s seriously okay. And if your dentist goes to hard on you, bite his fingers.

i didnt wear my retainers and my teeth are slooowly moving around. but they still look better than before. lucky me my problem wasnt too bad

Congrats. You’ll be annoyed by them til the day you get them removed, and then after that, things won’t be the same :frowning:

I had braces from my Sophomore year of high school up to near the end of my senior year. The first couple of days I had them on, they hurt. A lot.

The spacers that I had to put in also hurt the first few days I wore them, but I got used to them.

And now I’ve been wearing my Retainer for nearly 2 years now. Like Eva said, it’s a good idea to wear them whenever you have to daily, because you don’t want to go back through the braces phases again.

And Eva, having your braces tightened really isn’t all that sore. It may feel like that the first time it happens, but after that, it’s not that bad.

I was lucky enough to never have needed them.

Well, one dentist said I did, but this person also said I needed my teeth bleached. You’d think I’d have been chewing tobacco since I was 4 by what he suggested, but my teeth are perfectly fine. The guy probably just wanted to pay off his Yacht. :stuck_out_tongue:

My teeth are quite literally too ruined for braces to fix. Goddamn my childhood jaw-breaking antics. ;___;

If it were my choice, I wouldn’t have gotten them. The main reason I went along with it is because I’ve always taken forever (to the point where my family calls me “grandpa”) to eat because many of my teeth are deformed and came in wrong because of the chemo I had to treat my brain tumor when I was thirteen months old. I could care less about the vanity issue.

As for pain, I have a very strong resistance to it. Yeah, my teeth ache, but it’s not a big deal. What I wasn’t ready for was the enormous scrathes on my gums. Like I said, I woke up looking like a balloon, my gums we so swollen.

I think my orthodontist is waiting for my mouth to heal and toughen up before he puts more braces on. The main problem with me that I don’t think the rest of you guys had is that scratching. My mouth is so small that even the smallest movement will have the brackets scratching my gums. Chewing isn’t so bad (I have the stuff on two of my teeth that doesn’t let you bite down all the the way), but swallowing was a bitch because it made my gums ride right on top of the brackets.

I’m OK now as I only have four remaining brackets that don’t scratch my mouth, but I’m not looking forward to more. At least I never really ate any of the things you aren’t supposed to with braces. The only thing I’m missing is chewing gum.

You must have had a nice dentist :frowning:

I second that :frowning: I’m so glad I got rid of those things last year.

I thought braces were not that bad. Some of my friends got braces with rubber bands connecting their top and bottom teeth an that looks painful.

It’s not really, they’re just there to get your front and back teeth to line up properly. And Bahamut, how the hell are you braces scratching your gums 0.o. I’m assuming they’re train-tracks, and I really can’t see how that could happen.
