Audio manipulation woes

I got the Sony Vegas 4.0 editing suite a few hours ago. Only it always saves everything I create as .veg files, which are useless.

Does anyone know how I can convert these files to mp3s, or make them save as mp3s in the first place? it’s a fantastic program, but it’s driving me crazy. >_<

Most programs allows you to export files to .wav format, which can easily be converted to MP3. I’ve never used Sony Vegas editing suite, but you should be able to “export file” or “save a copy” as a wav.
