Ashura vs. Asura

I’m redoing the Name Origins section to my liking now, since ownership of that section got translated over to me. I’ve encountered a problem with Asura vs. Ashura, and now my little mind can’t comprehend what’s going on here. I know there is an Asura weapon, and there was an Asura summon. If you look on the Items page for Asura, you see it’s different than the one for Ashura on summons. However, from what I see there was never an Ashura FF4, it was Asura. So I’m confused, with what it was supposed to be, and which is which, if there’s something I’m missing. Can anyone help me out?
Asura
Ashura

I believe it was Ashura in at least the FF4HT fan translation. I don’t recall offhand whether the summon was ever called Ashura in an official translation. And I know that the weapon was definitely called both Asura and Ashura in various games.

We really need to get hold of a complete list of translations of the various versions of FF1-6. It’s starting to drive me nuts. >_<

Fricking hilarious! (OT but had to say it)

We need to leverage the translation synergies here, dammit. And be more proactive and edgy with the cromulence of the dynamics between the two issues.

Eponimous Frammistat to you too. :stuck_out_tongue:

A-Hem I believe the correct term is Asura. Ashura is an Arabic word (it simply means “tenth” and is usually meant to reference Mohammed’s days of fasting.) It’s likely there was some misspelling during translation, but the character refered to was definitely Hindu, not Arabic.
