Well it’s almost Christmas time and this year I was thinking of asking for a PDA. It’s an idea I’ve toyed around with for a few years, but I always found them to be too expensive for what your were getting. However, recently the prices seem to have gone done by a fair bit so I decided to look into getting one this year.
My problem is that I really have no idea which brands and models would be worth it. Palm is the brand that comes to mind when you think PDA, but what are some other brands worth looking into?
I’m looking for something around $200-$300 CND (about $150-$250 USD) and keep in mind that I already have a very powerful laptop which I bring to class so what I want is something nice, but without too many bells and whistles.
Any suggestions (especially those with links) would be greatly appreciated.
There are two main OSes for handhelds: Windows Handheld (Win CE) or Plam OS.
All current Plam OS Devices Now can be “Hot-synced” via Infra-red, which mean that you don’t need the Cradle/Cable to tranfare data from Laptop to Plamtop. Some more expensive models have Bluetooth for conecting with several Devices, including Laptops and PCs.
For Plam Devices to input data you use “Gaffitti” or the popup “Tap keyboard”. For most Plams the area off screen for Grafitti (The Expenive ones have a hideable one). Learning Grafitti is a bit time consuming but it pays off soon. My Gafitti rate is about my “Tap Keyboard” rate.
I’d Recomend Getting one with removeable Memory card, and Colour Screen. You can use it as a Photo Gallery and MP3 player. You’ll esally fit the Bible on it. (It’s about 2 Megabites for KJV, with reader.)
I regually Borrow Gamefaq’s and with the Help of TiBR and TiBR Converter, Transfer the FAQ on to my Palm. TiBR is a Ebook reader for Palm OS 3+.
Big Nutter
I myself use A second Hand Plam, which doesn’t do many of the More fancy funtions, but I does more than I need it for. The Previous owner I know very well and I know all the funtions from his current stock he and his staff uses for his business. (“Dave” uses his as A Photo Album, when asked about his trip recently)
