A (very) old face peeking in

Hey all,

It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve stopped by here. Tripped over the url earlier tonight and figured I’d drop in and see what’s going on.

You wouldn’t recognize me with this username, because back in ye olden days I was known around here as Shaggy.

When I say “very old face”, I mean VERY old. I was active in the late 90s and early 2000s, and my primary activities consisted of creating the Breath of Fire 2 shrine and playing Diablo 1 and Starcraft with Sinistral, Mr. Saturn, and a number of others whom I can’t even recall anymore.

Hell, I remember getting ahold of the Diablo 2 beta and having a go at that with Sinistral.

Just thought I’d pop in and see what all the old guard is up to (if any are even still around).

As to myself, I’m now a regular face at OverClocked Remix, and spend most of my time remixing there and elsewhere. A few examples…

Xenogears:

Banjo Kazooie:

Final Fantasy 7 & Xenogears:

Megaman 2:

Chronotrigger:

Anyhow, like I said, any info on the older staffers/members from back in the day? Very curious as to what everyone else is up to now.

See you around!

Hey Shag.

You forgot about me, even when I exploded your face (accidently) so often on my Mage in Diablo? :frowning:

I’ll give your remixes a listen. As for older staffers being still around…you’d be surprised.

Haha… fireball.

I remember Shaggy.

Ok, I hope your MM2 makes it on OCRemix, cuz it’ll find a spot on my portable media player.

As for what we’re up to, well, I’m mostly busy between work and trying to go back to college, Sinistral is doing experiments on bacteria to doom/save humanity (50/50 chance, depending of his mood? :stuck_out_tongue: ), haven’t seen/spoken to Hiei in ages, and I’m going to Drak’s bday party tonight.

That about covers the people in the Quebec region, I think.

Cool, I wasn’t expecting to see some of you guys still around, there are so many from way back when that I can’t even remember the names of most of 'em anymore.

Say, anyone a fan of Lufia? :3

Only of the first two. The third one takes forever to grind through, and RoL had some serious issues.

I’ve only played the first two. The first one wasn’t bad for it’s time but get really repetitive for me as the game dragged on. I really liked the second one, but never got around to finishing it.

I only ask because I’ve almost finished production on a symphonic rock remix of most of the major songs in Lufia, just waiting on a friend of mine to record her vocals for Iris’ part.

The empty sounding parts are where vocals go, hence sounding empty.

For those unfamiliar (or even those who are familiar) with the first two Lufia games, I approached this to be as “heartfelt” as possible. It’s supposed to embody the final moments of Lufia 2 (or the beginning of Lufia 1), just after the battle with the Sinistrals has occurred.

Selan has been critically wounded and now lays dying as Maxim has to rush to stop the island from crashing into the village that houses their son. After an encounter with Erim/Iris (2:20 - 3:40 songwise), he does so, and rejoins Selan. He is exhausted and she is near death.

At 4:37, Maxim speaks his final words to Selan.

Resigned to their fate, they hold each other in their final moments as the island crashes to its doom.

I am a HUGE fan of the first two (SNES ones), so I was trying to infuse as much emotion into this as I could. I hope when the final product is done and the vocals are recorded that I will have done this.

Wow, whats up Shaggy! You probably don’t remember me :frowning:

Dude, that is absolutely going to rock when it’s finished. Er, so to speak. The nicest thing I can say about the first Lufia is that I consider it to be a thoroughly average game, but the second is one of my favorites ever.

The ending sequence always gets me all misty-eyed. :bowser:

Sweet Lufia 2. Slow-paced Lufia.

I forget. What was the whole story/controversy behind Shagistral?

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Wow. Hey man :D. I’m going to give your remixes a whirl sometime soon and post some feedback.

(To clarify what Zero said - I created a protein that activates the immune system to kill cancer and also specifically kills currently untreatable forms of cancer and am in the process of showing how it works and patenting it; the bacteria was the early step where I used them to make DNA). And yes, our species IS doomed.

I didn’t realize there was one :open_mouth:

I better do something to live up to the hype…

Uh…

KILL WHITE PEOPLE.

Yeah, that’ll do it.

Cool, I think you’ll particularly enjoy the Lufia one.

Want to throw some cash my way when you’re a bajillionaire?

Sin, did I read that right? Sounded like you found a cure for cancer.

I won’t know until I try it on more things. Right now its a prototype tested in mice. As things are, I don’t know if how much it actually WILL do. I could simply have made the world a safer place for mice.

I can’t access your first XG track on OCR, the link at OCR is broken. Your Jenova track is pretty good, its a shame I’m not a fan of the source material. You handle it well though. Everyone and their mother does the Wily track but you did a pretty damn good job at it. It could use a little trimming though, its a little on the long side. The problem I find with the CT track is that the background is too loud or too dominant on the main tracks for the first 2/3 of the track. I like how the Lufia track starts, a nice little echo to it while doing a variant of the Lufia 1 opener and following it into the Doom Island track. There are entirely not enough Lufia remixes, esp good ones. You should submit your Lufia track to Dwelling of Duels when they have a free month, you’d probably rank in the top 3 submissions. Is there any remixer you listen to over another? (ie goat vs SSH vs Ailsean). What I especially like about your remixes is the lack of emphasis on high pitch techno noise. I can’t stand the stuff (anyone who listens to Black Mages will hear lots of it). As goat once said “more guitars, more and more guitars!!”. I typically like my tracks to go harder and faster than yours, like Demon Travel by SSH, but this is pretty good nevertheless. It doesn’t sound amateurish at all and I’ve heard a lot of crap, which this isn’t. Do you do any professional work Shag or is this purely a hobby? If I become a bajillionaire, I’ll hire you, how about that :P?

So when the rodent overlords put our backs against the wall, we know who to blame.

EXACTLY.
