A matter of skill?

I rarely ever use strategy guides or, FAQ’s I like to find out the stuff on my own. A lot of people use strategy guides and act like they’re all, “hardcore”, I think strategy guides are for the weak.
:hahaha; Now discuss.

:hahaha; Now dicuss

Make me

i used to use guides when i first started playing RPG’s when i was 7 and it was all to hard. but now i only use them to find special items (ie. Al Bhed Primers) or if i absouloutley need help

I haven’t used a guide in so long (including the shrines here of at GameFAQs), although I do have some (free offers, huzzah!). Makes it fun.

I use em every now and then because I’m impatient when I don’t want to have to figure out a system. Saying strategy guides suck at an RPG site that makes free guides is also retarded 8P

Yeah, you do know there is a site attached to this forum don’t you?

WHAT?! WHERE?!

I only use faqs when a game doesn’t tell you what to do next and I’m really, really lost or for the hella secret stuff.

Yeah, I mostly play RPGs for their storylines rather than for any sort of personal challenge (though every so often there’s a really innovative system that I have a lot of fun tinkering around with). Like, I like puzzles and all, but if a puzzle is taking more more than half an hour to solve, and it’s really not drawing me in (some insane puzzles are pretty cool, like Lufia 2’s puzzles kicked ass, were fun to play around with for hours), then I have no qualms about referring to a strategy guide. Same with if I’m getting my ass kicked like five times in a row by some boss, and I just wanna see what happens afterwards, I’ll visit here or gamefaqs for info.

I’m no hardcore gamer, though :stuck_out_tongue: And I don’t make any pretensions at being such.

I’ve never bought a strategy guide, but somehow, I end up with a lot of them. Most of them, I don’t really use. Only for games like Earthbound, where some of that info is really helpful. But I do sometimes read the guides because they’re actually told in a sorta story format, and they’re always a good read.

And where can I get one of those shirts? :stuck_out_tongue:

Im with Sinistral in that i use strategy guides when im impatient and i got a few strategy guides for games that i absolutely needed help looks at Valkarie Profileso i mostly only use them when im very stuck or to check if i got everything.

I use them after I’ve gone through once so I can get everything. Or if I’m really stuck and have been trying for a while. Then I check and it doesn’t say anything about my problem, I go back, and it’s painfully obvious, like, not even a puzzle obvious.

I usually don’t use strategy guides unless I’m tottaly clueless. Only game I can think of that this happend too more than a few times was Chrono Cross - god that game was terrible at getting you from point a to point b sometimes.

I use strategy guides sometimes. Usually if I’m stuck I’ll look up gamefaqs or RPGClassics or something.

Same here. And i don’t even buy any stupid guides, Gamefaqs/RPGCshrines are all ill ever need. If neither of those have the guides im looking for, the guides probably dont even exist.

<img src=“http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/tenchimaru/td.gif”> I usually only use FAQs or shrines when I’m playing the game for the second time, to perfect my file, or if I’m really bloody stuck. Like Maz, I mostly play RPGs for the storyline, although I love a good tactical RPG.

I’ve always trusted FAQs and shrines more than strat guides.

But I only use them when I’m stuck somewhere.

I’m with TD and demigod on this one. After beating the game legit the first time through, I’ll then purchase the guide for the second time through so I can get all the good stuff.

One of my rules of thumb is after the first time through, cheats, codes, and walkthroughs are all fair game. My only exception is fighting games because ‘It all depends on your skill… Play it straight!’ Guides for those kinds of games give you the moves, but you still have to be good enough to get the secrets.

Honestly. Who could’ve possibly gotten hang of the chocoboraising system in FF7 without a FAQ? I was completely in the dark of the whole matter until some local game magazine held a 2 page spread on the whole system and how it works… of course, in the next magazine, they revealed that they could be used to get the übermaterias…
