A ``lack of security’’ resulted in the loss of 377 tons of high explosives from the sprawling Al-Qaqaa military installation about 30 miles south of Baghdad, International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei said.
The letter from Abbas informed the IAEA that since Sept. 4, 2003, looting at the Al-Qaqaa installation south of Baghdad had resulted in the loss of 214.67 tons of HMX, 155.68 tons of RDX and 6.39 tons of PETN explosives.
HMX and RDX can be used to demolish buildings, down jetliners, produce warheads for missiles and detonate nuclear weapons. HMX and RDX are key ingredients in plastic explosives such as C-4 and Semtex - substances so powerful that Libyan terrorists needed just 1 pound to blow up Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, killing 170 people.
Just like the museums that nobody cared to protect, just more firey. Wonderful job. Wond-fricking-erful job. But at least they’re making sure that those oil pumps are A-Okay at all times.
Am I the only American who thinks America sucks? And my faith in the current regime in America diminishes even further. Not that it was ever high to begin with.
But senior Defense Department officials told FOX News they’re not sure whether looters made off with the explosives or whether Saddam moved them before the war began. NBC News reported Monday night that one of its reporters was embedded with the 101st Airborne. She watched the troops conduct what can be described as a “cursory search” of the premises on April 10, and found a great deal of conventional ordnance, but no RDX or HMX.

What? You guys just bombed the city and waltzed into the king’s throne? Even the stupidest general knows that one of the first things to do after taking a city is making a detailed list of all the stuff you captured!
How the fuck can someone steal that much explosives without someone noticing. Even if you stole only 1 tonne a day, it would take you over a year to get it.
(im noticing that we need a news forum ) well anyway, they are right…HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU NOT NOTICE SOMEONE STEALING 377 TONS OF EXPLOSIVES??? i mean ,are you fucking illiterate ???can you not see ?? do you need someone to point shit out for you like friggin retards? ( sorry, got pissed back there) anyways “great job people! that a wrap! lets wait until we get another chance to fucking SCREW OURSELVES OVER AGAIN.” :D:D:D
They’re contradicting themselves. The following was reported by the Associated Press on October 25: “At the Pentagon, an official who monitors developments in Iraq said US-led coalition troops had searched Al-Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, which had been under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact. Thereafter the site was not secured by U.S. forces, the official said, also speaking on condition of anonymity.”
This is outdated, as NBC interviewed the reporter in question on October 26, and she said that the unit she was with was in fact only there on a “pit stop” and did not conduct a search of the premises.
This made me think of that thread a few weeks ago about what bush was going to do the last week or so before the election (Finding bin laden, finding WMD in Iraq, that kinda stuff) to get more votes. Kinda backfired.
Such childish incompetence isn’t a complete surprise, considering who’s involved, but still, one would expect them not to be so stupid as to let such quantities of explosives be swiped right under their noses. And as Weiila pointed out, they only seem to care about the friggin’ oil. The looting that took place after the invasion was outrageous, and instead of maintaining order, some of the soldiers tried to send some of that stolen property home, as if the artifacts at the local museums were nothing more than second-rate souvenirs!
After watching this I started to feel the same way. I’m pissed at how big the assholes are that we send to “take care” of other countries. Rednecks shouldnt join the military.
