Evangelion is not ground breaking. I heard it copied off an anime called Ideon.
Evangelion certainly got many ideas from Gundam.

Anno did NOT create the genre of realistic anime that also has robots. It has been done before.
What does Evangelion have to do with Gundam? They are both in the “real robot” genre. They have similiar background music, and a wimpy main character

Like? The two series are about as different as you can possibly MAKE from a single source. Namely; giant robots.

Evangelion is a pretty good series, its just it has a lot of people that look a little to far into it, and its always hailed as the greatest anime series of all time. Thats why i said it was overrated.

I dont think you read my previous posts…I was saying Gundam X73 and Eva are both pretty realistic shows. I mean by same genre. Both the shows are pretty serious. I think they can be compared

And Mazinger is the father of all Big-Ass Robots. Said robots may have evolved into rebel killing machines like Gundam Wing or psychological head-aches like Evangelion until there was no trace of their origins, but like it or not, the fact of having a big robot in a series puts Mazinger on it’s family tree, even as the great-great-great-great-grandfather.

It has come to my attention that not a single person here knows the meaning of the terms overrated and underrated.
This was not a spontaneous conclusion. I have meditated upon it for aeons, and you are all conclusively idiots.
Mononoke Hime-I just saw it, and it is an amazing movie. A real treat. But I didnt feel that sense of orgasmic bliss that everyone else supposedly did after watching it.
I don’t know who these people who claim orgasmic bliss are, but I certainly don’t jack off during action movies that involve a guy with a diseased arm decapitating samurai and having his food pre-chewed by a rabid wolf girl while his rival’s arm is ripped off by the jaws of a disembodied wolf god.
It WAS an extremely intellectually stimulating movie that addresses some important issues, like man’s impact on nature, and throws some extremely cool fight scenes in while doing it, though. It wasn’t orgasmic, no movie is, but it was definately pretty intense.
Now then, let me break something to you guys. You might not like it, but it has to be said:
“Overrated” is not synonymous with “bad.”
“Underrated” is not synonymous with “good.”
This is how people have been listing anime for the previous 38 posts.
What these terms actually are, are comparisons between what an anime is rated and what it actually is. Terms like these aren’t a gradation. There are only 3 possibilities:

It is rated poorly by common hearsay, but is actually very good: Underrated. In other words, it is rated less than it deserves.

It is rated poor and is poor, or it is rated highly, and is great: Accurate.

It is rated highly, but sucks: Overrated.
Let’s take DBZ for example, since so many people called it overrated. Now, tell me, what is DBZ rated? The vast majority of people say “shit.” So like, fucking explain to me then, how “shit” is an overrating, without making any wise cracks about it being too terrible for the word “shit.”
It simply isn’t. It’s either rated poorly, and is poor, or it’s rated poorly, and is good. The possibility of it being overrated is non-existant.
Underrated: FMA
The same thing applies here. How is FMA underrated when everyone and their dog thinks it’s the bees fucking knees?
Over: DBZ, Inuyasha
And how can two anime that most people utterly despise be overrated?
Despite it being my favourite anime, this is the only thing that I actually agree with:
