SNES:
FF4-6 all have 2 player functions:
For FF4: All you need to do is plug in a controller, and then both controllers can control everything. This gets really hectic, though…
FF5 and FF6: There’s an option in the menu called Config; go to that, and then in there, there will be an option called ‘Control’ or something like that. Set it to multiple, and then press A. You’ll then be taken to a menu where you can set certain characters to the player 2 controller.
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
I really liked ToS. If you want multiplayer RPGs look at Diablo/Diablo 2 or other mmorpgs. Those are on the PC like ZSNES. Multiplayer RPGs are kinda rare. You might want to rent crystal chronicles before you buy it (if).
Yeah, it can burn out for some people really fast.
Keep in mind, multiplayer on FFCC requires a GBA/GBASP (not DS) and a GBA>GCN link cable per player. All of my friends may already have GBASPs and link cables, but not everyone does.
PSO would be your best bet, I’d reccomend Eps 1 & 2 plus.
For co-op play, I’m quite fond of side-scrolling beat-em-ups. A couple favorates of mine on SNES are King of Dragons, Knights of the Round and Captain Commando.

Oh, also, I might suggest Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (GCN). It’s not 100% RPG, but it’s got leveling and item buying and stuff like that. Definitely fun when played co-op.

That game is so messed up. My friend and I made the game crash by killing bosses too fast, and we managed to do this consistently. This was on the PS2 version though, the XBox and GCN versions apparently are more “sturdy”.
Edit: Also exploit the Spider Queen if you play it! (Biggest oversight ever, if you’ve played it you probably know what I mean)
Ew, Gauntlet, we got both the N64 and the GC versions to crash, hated that.
ToS is really fun though, I reccomand it. It’s more fun with 4 players too.
If you enter a SUPER SECRET CODE, you can play the Twisted Tales of Spike McFang 2 player.
Then there’s the whole “control Tingle while your friend is playing Wind Waker” thing. It’s pretty sweet to piss your friend off by continually bombing Link while you’re Tingle. =D
